Question: What do I need to know about getting a tattoo?

Answer: If you have a tattoo design in mind the best place to start is by booking a consultation with Josh Fields or contact me at [email protected]. If this is your first time getting a tattoo, we can help guide you through the process. The private studio is located inside Elite Wellness. Our collaboration together provides a clean environment, as a clinic we offer the highest level of professional functionality. We have a warm inviting and helpful staff. Josh is professional, patient, knowledgeable with 28 years of experience and willing to work with any concept.


Question: What are your hours?

Answer: Platinum Rose Studio hours: 10am-6pm Monday-Saturday by appointment only. Walk-ins are welcomed; however, availability is slim due to Josh’s tattoo work in demand.


Question: Do I have to come to Cedar Rapids to work with Platinum Rose Studio?

Answer: Yes. However, Josh does travel to tattoo shows on a rare occasion so keep an eye out for his traveling schedule on all social media platforms.


Question: How long does it take to get a tattoo?

Answer: The time it takes to get a tattoo depends on several variables. The size, complexity and how well a tattoo guest can sit comfortably while getting tattooed. Smaller tattoos can take less than an hour, while larger ones can require multiple sessions.


Question: How much does a tattoo cost?

Answer: Prices depend on the tattoo's size, design complexity, location, and artist's experience. Josh’s minimum is $125; the hourly rate starts at $250 an hour. Discounts start at 4-hour tattoo sessions. A pro-rated hourly rate is applied for any tattoo 4 hours or longer or depending on the amount of time reserved per session on Josh’s schedule. If you have further pricing detail questions, it is recommended to book a consultation.


Question: What should I do before getting a tattoo?

Answer: Ensure you are well-rested, hydrated, and have eaten beforehand. When you choose your design, you want to be thinking clearly, so avoid using drugs or alcohol for a day or two before your appointment. Research finished work online, in person inquiries or referrals.


Question: How long does it take to heal?

Answer: The average healing time varies from person to person. Skin care health, immunity function, and diet contribute to the quality and recovery time for your tattoo. Average time to heal before strenuous activity i.e. swimming, sunbathing, etc. is two weeks. Factors like size, location, skin quality, and following your aftercare instructions properly can affect healing time.


Question: How do I know if a tattoo shop is safe and clean?

Answer: State licenses, reviews, sterile equipment, sanitation procedures, OPIM practices, proper needle biohazard disposal, PPE i.e., gloves, aprons, etc.


Question: Can I get a tattoo while I'm pregnant?

Answer:  No. It is advised to avoid getting a tattoo while pregnant due to the risk of infection, immune system complications and potential harm to the developing fetus/baby.


Question: What are the risks of getting a tattoo?

Answer: Risks may include skin bacterial infection, allergic reactions to certain tattoo pigments, bloodborne diseases if proper care or precautions are not taken. There is also the risk of making poor tattoo design choices… so it is recommended to listen to the advice of your artist.


Question: Can I get an infection from getting a tattoo?

Answer: Yes, if not done in a sterile environment, if aftercare instructions are not followed properly, there could be a potential risk of infection.


Question: Can I get a tattoo over a scar?

Answer: Yes, but the process can be more challenging, and the results may vary. Consult with a professional tattoo artist first. Consultations are preferred.


Question: Is anybody allergic to tattoo ink?

Answer: Yes, some people can have a allergic reactions to certain tattoo pigments, rare however possible. Most modern professional inks are very safe.

Organic sunscreens are best (less carcinogens and other chemicals known for skin cancer accelerants), exfoliate regularly, skin conditioner or lotion application during the life of your tattoo will increase longevity. Sun exposure abuse, aging, and other forms of skin trauma can damage a tattoo.


Question: How do I choose a design for my tattoo?

Answer: Passion is at the core of choosing what to get tattooed. A tattoo can have a personal meaning, be symbolic, you can simply love art in general or want the cool factor of getting a tattoo along with the experience. Carefully research your ideas while having some variety of similar options. Do not overwhelm yourself as this may lead you to indecisiveness causing the finished product not to be within your standards.

Answer: Research artists online, check reviews, ask for recommendations, and visit studios to see their work in person.


Question: Can I get a tattoo if I have a medical condition?

Answer: If you have any concerns, consult with your physician before getting tattooed. Make sure to inform your tattoo artist prior to any tattoo appointment regarding any medical conditions you currently have, Physician’s concerns, current medications or possible medical conditions that may be caused as a result of tattooing increasing any underlining conditions to pre-determine whether a tattoo is right for you.

Question: Can any tattoo be covered up with a new one?

Answer: The success rate of a high-quality tattoo cover up can be accomplished in several ways. Trust your professional artist’s ability and ask to see examples. The client must have artistic flexibility with the artist thus increasing the potential. Having more than one option of a tattoo design. Prior Laser Treatment services raise the percentage of final success with tattoo cover-ups; number of treatments vary.


Question: What should I consider when choosing a cover-up tattoo design?

Answer: Any design is welcomed, and you should choose multiple design options or ideas in case your design or idea is not as practical to use as a cover up. We recommend a consultation with the artist. Consults will allow the artist to see the tattoo in person, take measurements, pictures of your existing tattoo and discuss the options. Answer: Everyone experiences pain differently as well most individuals have variations in pain tolerances. This includes the differences in male and female due to hormonal changes or fluctuations. Your overall health, including proper skin care, will be a factor that contributes to the level of your body’s pain tolerance and ability. Medications may hinder your pain tolerance also. It is recommended to make sure you are of sound mind, stress free, well rested and nourished prior to getting tattooed.
